During Spring Break 2018, while I was learning how to handle my kayak on a quiet corner of Bull Shoals Lake, my cousins Amanda and Gavin took a hike to the Indian Rock House and discovered the magic of the trail. Amanda is a runner and Gavin has been spending too much time around me, so they decided it would be fun to go along on a hike. The weather actually cooperated at the end of March. After a heck of a lot of mapmaking and strategic planning, I set off with David, Amanda and Gavin for a day back to the Erbie area and Cecil Creek.
Cecil Creek was not in agreement with my plan.
We made it to within a few dozen yards of the trailhead and discovered that the rains guaranteeing nice waterfalls also guaranteed a swollen creek that was probably impassable even with a truck. I left the Mini behind but thought a full size truck could get through anything. Wrong. Very wrong.
So after a quick recce of the swiftly flowing creek and the soft gravel banks, we decided to find an alternate destination. They had planned to hike Rush originally but went to IRH instead, so we turned around and went upstream.
And at the end, they said they wanted to do it again.
